Week 7 — Qualitative versus Quantitative versus Mixed Method Studies
Week 7 — Qualitative versus Quantitative versus Mixed Method Studies
Discussion: Research Methods Instructions
Discussion – Part A
There are various methods that may be used to collect data in research (e.g. surveys, interviews, etc.). Each method is unique. After reviewing the Reading and Study material for this module, please respond to the following:
- Describe each of the available methods that may be used.
- When is it appropriate to use each of these methods, and under which design are they most appropriate?
Your response to these two questions should be a minimum of 300 words. You must use your text plus two outside scholarly resources, for a minimum of three resources. Please save these texts as they will be used in a future assignment.
Discussion – Part B
Reply to at least 2 of your classmates’ threads, in at least 150 words, building upon the original thread or offering a contrasting viewpoint. The replies must be substantive, using at least two scholarly resources, and must further the discussion.
Overview
While most research studies are based in quantitative or qualitative research, there are few that do both (i.e. mixed method). Understanding the importance of both, and when to use each method is paramount to a researcher. You will continue to work on designing the basic problem and research question based on each of these methods.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to:
Describe available research methods. (CLO1 Introduce -> PLO1 Introduce)
Compare and contrast research methods. (CLO1 Introduce -> PLO1 Introduce)
Articulate the appropriateness of research methods for the various designs. (CLO2 Introduce – PLO2 Introduce)
Critique peers’ analysis of the various research methods and designs. (CLO1 Introduce -> PLO1 Introduce; CLO2 Introduce -> PLO2)
Develop an annotated bibliography of potential resources to be used in future research. (CLO3 -> PLO 3)
