Looking at a classroom through two different lenses affords an opportunity to analyze the same scene from different perspectives. To better understand how Weimer’s ideas apply in the classroom, you will change your lens from “Fink” to “Weimer” to analyze the case study you chose last week.
Revisit your chosen case study from Week 2 from Issue 119 of New Directions for Teaching and Learning.
- Write 1 – 2 pages, reanalyzing the same case study you chose last week, using Weimer’s ideas on learner-centered teaching.
- How do the strategies and approaches used in the case study exemplify Weimer’s ideas?
- What additional changes might the instructor(s) in the case study make to further integrate Weimer’s ideas?
By Day 7
Submit both Assignments from Week 2 and Week 3 for grading.
Dr. Kathryn Nantz was one of many teachers who applied Fink’s ideas to improve instruction and who wrote articles to report on successes in their own unique contexts. Choose one of the articles from Issue 119 of New Directions for Teaching and Learning—each of which represents a case study of faculty changing their approach to teaching in a particular subject or discipline. For your Assignment you will analyze how one of these instructors applied Fink’s strategies, so you can better apply them to your own chosen context in the coming weeks.

Assignment length: 2–3 pages
You will not submit the Case Study Analysis assignment this week. This will be submitted and graded with the Week 3 Assignment 1 Part 1.
